Let me clear the air on my thoughts about why keeping our health and the environment on a even keel is so important. I will also explain why our health is almost solely dependent on how we treat our environments in the near future.

I believe that our health and the environment are so intertwined in such a complex relationship that we must understand from the standpoint of a society the effects of how we currently treat our environments will eventually be the main cause of our demise, direct or indirectlly.

We must become more consciously aware of how we use the air we breath, LITERALLY!   This needs to be a GLOBAL  movement, as it effects all.    Many developing countries have been hit harder than most, but a better health and environment really speaks for us all.

When I was first diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, my doctors really didn’t have a clue what the exact reason for this debilitating decease was, and I don’t believe they still have definitive reason why.   All they could tell me then was that it could be genes/hereditary, or something in the environment.   I couldn’t believe it.   I didn’t drink or smoke, was extremely strong and healthy.   I just had this thing, that my doctors couldn’t tell me for sure where it came from.   No one in my immediate family had this before, that I know of, so I ruled that out.

I stared looking at the environment. The one thing I found in my looking and researching was that my health and the environment were definitely under attack.  Now weather the environment itself was the blame for me having my immune system turn on itself in the form of colitis remains to be seen, I mean the jury is still out on that answer.

One thing I can say is some of the very items that we use daily have contributed with the acceleration process that is destroying our environment. There’s ozone depletion, global climate change, water quality and pollution to name a few.  Look guys, we cannot turn back the hands of time, but like my grandmother used to say when you know better you should do better.   That coined phrase should apply to all in my opinion!

All of the things that the human race have had direct or indirect effect on within our environment has created a conundrum of sorts, because we have become the beneficiaries of all the negative effects that have been created.

Some of you may not even be aware that you are harming the environment from things that you do everyday, I myself was the same.  I think once we learn more, it is our responsibility to do more and play our part to respect the environment in a case to make a better wold for us all.

There are a few things that we all can do on a daily basis to minimize the impact we have on the environment.

Here are a few examples but are not limited:

  1. Take public transportation: riding a bike or walking and leaving the car home, will reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
  2. Limit the amount of fertilizer applied to lawns.
  3. Use less energy in your home.

Here’s the thing to keep in mind, any thing that reduces water and energy consumption can lead to a positive impact on our environment.

Let’s all do our part to respect our health and the environment.   We owe it to the world we live in, and generations to come.
